CA CPT Exams Overview

The Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) conducts Chartered Accountant Common Proficiency Test, commonly known as CA CPT Exam, which is a gateway to get into the profession of Chartered Accountancy (CA).
The exam is conducted twice a year, in the months of June and December.

CA CPT 2016 Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility to take CA CPT:
- You must have passed 10+2 examination or equivalent from a recognised institution.
- You must be registered for the Common Proficiency Test with the Board of Studies of the Indian Chartered Accountancy of India (ICAI).
- Even if you have already registered for the Professional Course, you are eligible for appearing in this test.
CA CPT 2016 Application Details
Visit the official website of ICAI and register as a new user.
Fill up the registration details and click on the “Register” button.
Once the registration will be done, fill up the personal information in the form and click on the “Save Details” button.
After the registration, click on the “Apply Now” button and fill up the education details.
After reviewing all the filled in the information, save the form and make payment of exam fee and save the exam confirmation page as PDF.
Send the saved PDF file to the ICAI office on the address mentioned below:

CA CPT 2016 Exam Syllabus
The CPT (Common Proficiency Test) is an objective type examination of 4 hours duration divided into 2 sessions of 2 hours each. The total marks for the test are 200.
SESSION–I (Two Sections– Two hours –100 Marks)
Section A: Fundamentals of Accounting (60 Marks)
Section B: Mercantile Laws (40 Marks)
SESSION–II (Two Sections–Two hours–100 Marks)
Section C: General Economics (50 Marks) (buy Economics Class 12 CD)
Section D: Quantitative Aptitude (50 Marks)
There are multiple choice questions with negative marking for incorrect answers. To clear the CPT, a student has to obtain a total of 50% marks in all the papers together.
The admission requirements for the second level of the course i.e. PCC (Professional Competency Course) require that the student should have qualified in the CPT. This level is thus the entry level for all the students including graduates.
